:: Welcome ::
History:
In 1970 two United Church Ministers and two Catholic Priests met to discuss the plight of Windsor’s most needy, and what might be done to assist them. From this humble beginning a vision emerged that culminated in the establishment in 1975 of Windsor Homes Coalition Inc. as a non-profit provider of clean, affordable housing. In 1995 a second division, Windsor Coalition Non Profit Homes Inc., was also established.
Mission:
The two Windsor Coalition agencies were created to assist seniors, disabled people, the unemployed, the poor and single women with children, not just with decent, low cost housing services, but also in other ways that both improve their quality of life and also integrate them more fully into the Windsor community.
Services:
In addition to providing affordable housing services the Windsor Coalition homes also provides a wide array of support services to its tenants, as well as to other needy people in our community. These include a Community Food Bank, Kids Summer Day Camp, Christmas Program, Father Warden Education Fund, plus other outreach services.
Organizations:
The Windsor Coalition homes are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, and operated by a small full-time professional staff. Tenant participation in the organization is ensured by having tenant representation on the Board of Directors, and also through the activities of the Tenant Advisory Council.
Support & Funding:
The Windsor Coalition housing receives financial support from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and the Windsor/Essex United Way. In addition, much-needed assistance in cash and in kind is received from generous Windsor-area businesses, community organizations and individuals. Support from non-government sources is critical to the success of most of the non-housing services provided by our organization. Windsor Homes Coalition Inc., as a registered charity, issues receipts for all financial donations.
